TREASURES OF THE ZENANA

The zenana (quarters of the royal women) in the palace, although largely hidden from outside view, was the lively centre of refined and sophisticated activity. The queens of Jodhpur arrived from their home kingdoms in other, often distant, regions of India and neighbouring countries. Along with their own traditions and aesthetic sensibilities, they were often accompanied by master artisans and artists from their own areas. The zenana was thus an extremely cosmopolitan part of the kingdom, and here the royal ladies collected and created objects of extraordinary luxury and beauty. Inspired by them, we thus bring you the finest and most exquisite objects in the realm.
